Gryphon’s Crown Lounge, Canada’s Wonderland
Extension’s interior finishes harmonize with the rustic charm of the existing British-style building.
Canada's Wonderland, Vaughan, Ontario
We are excited to share a glimpse of our recently completed extension and renovation of the Lounge at Gryphon’s Crown restaurant in Canada’s Wonderland. The existing building, originally designed by Shore Tilbe Henschel Irwin Peters Architects in 1979, drew inspiration from the character of a medieval British pub. Before its first renovation in 2001, it featured a distinctive timber structure with a thatched and wood-clad roof. Our challenge was to preserve the building’s rustic charm while introducing contemporary comfort, code-related requirements, and accessibility.
A key focus of this extension project was to maintain the architectural spirit and consistency of the entire building. By thoughtfully integrating new components, we emphasized the beauty of the aged timber, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. We selected materials and finishes that echoed the texture and warmth of the original design, fostering a seamless dialogue between the existing and the new. The contrast between the minimal interior lighting and the expansive natural light in the outdoor spaces enhances the intimate ambiance inside while celebrating the openness and vibrancy of the exterior facilities.
